The community of Kpulumbo came together in a spirited and well-organized clean-up exercise, supported and supervised by officers from the Environmental Health Unit of the North Gonja District Assembly.
The exercise, which saw active participation from residents of all ages, focused on clearing waste from public spaces, desilting gutters, sweeping streets, and promoting proper waste disposal practices. The initiative aimed to improve sanitation and raise awareness about the importance of maintaining a clean environment to prevent disease outbreaks.

Environmental Health Officers from the North Gonja District Assembly played a key role in coordinating the event, offering technical support, guidance, and public health education throughout the exercise. They also helped distribute cleaning tools such as gloves, rakes, wheelbarrows, and waste sacks to facilitate the smooth running of the activity.
Local leaders and youth groups also played an instrumental role in mobilizing community members and ensuring that the clean-up exercise was carried out effectively and safely.
Residents expressed their appreciation to the Environmental Health Unit and the North Gonja District Assembly for their continued support and pledged to sustain the momentum through periodic community-led sanitation drives.
The clean-up exercise concluded with a community health talk, where officers sensitized participants on issues such as waste segregation, handwashing, and the dangers of open defecation.
As sanitation remains a key priority in Ghana’s public health agenda, initiatives like this one in Kpulumbo serve as a powerful reminder of what can be achieved when communities and local government work together.
