The North Gonja District Assembly, in collaboration with the District National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO), has donated a number of life jackets to canoe operators in Daboya as part of efforts to promote water safety and prevent avoidable loss of lives on the White Volta River.

The intervention forms part of the Assembly’s commitment to enhancing the safety and protection of canoe operators and passengers who rely on the river for their daily activities.

Speaking during the presentation, the District Chief Executive for North Gonja, Hon. Abdulai Nashiru, admonished the canoe operators to make proper and consistent use of the life jackets, stressing that the items are primarily intended to save lives and prevent drowning incidents.

The DCE urged the operators to treat the life jackets as essential safety equipment and ensure that they are worn whenever they are operating their canoes or transporting passengers.

The canoe operators, in response, expressed their appreciation to the North Gonja District Assembly and NADMO for the timely intervention. They assured the DCE, the Assembly and NADMO staff that the life jackets would be put to the intended use and maintained properly to serve their purpose.

The donation was witnessed by the District Coordinating Director, a representative from the Wasipe Traditional Council/Chief’s Palace, staff of NADMO, and representatives of the youth group, among others.

The North Gonja District Assembly remains committed to strengthening disaster prevention, public safety and community resilience across the District.
