The National Board for Small Scale Industries (NBSSI) is the apex Governmental body for the promotion and development of the Micro and Small Scale Enterprise (MSE) in Ghana. This is in line with government’s policy framework that will help businesses expand and create jobs as well as promote growth of entrepreneurship opportunities for young Ghanaians in particular.
The NBSSI in the North Gonja District led by Mr. Amin Abdul-Basit has engaged in a lot of human resource development in recent past most especially young people in the ARTISANAL INDUSTRY. Interventions such as skills Training, Capital Support, Exposure to Ready Market and Networking Opportunities are some of the essential services being provided. Some NBSSI clients were recently trained in soap making and she nut processing.
The North Gonja District Assembly Business Advisory Centre has always led in this direction, According to Mr. Amin Abdul-Basit head of the centre, access to start up capital, machinery/logistics and raw materials for production have being the biggest challenge each time clients received skills training. He now feels fulfilled and happy that the trend is no longer how it used to be as more of his clients are now getting support in various forms to sustain their small scale businesses.
The District Chief Executive, Hon Adam Eliasu Red Bawa flanked by some Hon Assembly members of the District together with the District Coordinating director Alhaji Alidu Abubakari presented some agro processing start-up kits to seven (7) women drawn from Daboya, Yagbon and Kagbal.
About four (4) of the women who received training in Shea nut processing took away a motorised stainless steal she nut crusher and stainless steal she nut roaster each, the other three (3) who are into soap making also benefited manual soap cutting machine, hydrometer and caustic soda. Hon Red Bawa challenged them to prove to the district assembly that they are actually worthy beneficiaries by taking good of the machines and producing products for the market, the DCE also eulogized the Akuffo Addo government for the various entrepreneurial schemes aimed at lifting people out of poverty and giving hope to young people.
Madam Saaka Salamatu, one of the beneficiaries extended appreciation on behalf of her colleagues to the DCE, the district assembly and government for the support. They pledged to put it into good use and produce value added products as well.
