H.E President John Dramani Mahama Declares Wednesday As National Fugu Day. Celebrating Our Heritage, Promoting Our Local Industry.

In a bold move to promote Ghana’s rich cultural heritage and strengthen the local textile industry, H.E. President John Dramani Mahama has officially declared Wednesday as National Fugu Day. This remarkable initiative is aimed at showcasing and promoting the vibrant Fugu fabric, a symbol of identity, pride, and tradition—especially among the people of Northern Ghana.

Fugu, known for its unique handwoven craftsmanship and cultural significance from Daboya, represents more than just clothing; it tells the story of our history, resilience, and creativity as a people. By dedicating a day to celebrate Fugu, the President is reaffirming his commitment to empowering local artisans, boosting small-scale industries, and preserving Ghanaian traditions.

In demonstrating their strong support for this visionary initiative, the Member of Parliament for Daboya/Mankarigu Constituency, Hon. Alhaji Lawyer Shaibu Mahama Obei, and the District Chief Executive for North Gonja, Hon. Abdulai Nashiru, proudly adorned themselves in beautiful Fugu smocks today. Their gesture symbolizes unity with the President’s agenda and underscores their commitment to promoting local industries within the constituency and beyond.

By wearing Fugu, our leaders are not only embracing our cultural roots but also encouraging citizens to patronize locally made products, thereby creating jobs and stimulating economic growth in our communities. This initiative serves as a call to all Ghanaians to take pride in our traditional fabrics and support the hardworking weavers whose craftsmanship continues to gain recognition both locally and internationally.

Let us all join hands in celebrating National Fugu Day every Wednesday by wearing our Fugu with pride and championing the growth of our indigenous textile industry.

Long Live Ghana.
Long Live Our Cultural Heritage.
