The North Gonja District Health Directorate, in collaboration with the Savannah Regional Health Directorate, today organized a sensitization and stakeholder engagement meeting on the Free Primary Health Care Policy under the theme, “Healthy Communities, Stronger Future.”

The engagement brought together key stakeholders, health professionals, community leaders, and government representatives to discuss the significance and implementation of the policy, which is aimed at improving access to quality healthcare services, especially in rural communities.

Speaking at the event, the District Chief Executive for North Gonja, Hon. Abdulai Nashiru, emphasized the importance of the Free Primary Health Care Policy in strengthening Ghana’s healthcare delivery system. He reiterated the government’s commitment to improving the welfare of citizens through strategic social intervention programs and assured participants that more initiatives would be rolled out to enhance healthcare services across the country.

Officials from the North Gonja District Health Directorate, the Savannah Regional Health Directorate, and the Regional National Health Insurance Authority also addressed the gathering. They highlighted the critical role of primary healthcare in disease prevention, health promotion, and the provision of essential health services at the community level.

The speakers noted that the policy will help remove financial barriers to healthcare access, increase healthcare utilization, and improve health outcomes, particularly among vulnerable populations in rural areas. They further encouraged community members to embrace the policy and support efforts aimed at achieving universal health coverage.

The engagement forms part of ongoing efforts to educate the public and key stakeholders on the benefits of the Free Primary Health Care Policy and its potential to build healthier communities and a stronger future for all.

As part of the stakeholder engagement and sensitization program on the Free Primary Health Care Policy, officials from the North Gonja District Health Directorate, Savannah Regional Health Directorate, and the Regional National Health Insurance Authority paid a working visit to the proposed facility earmarked to house the North Gonja District Health Directorate and the District National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) Office.

The delegation inspected the facility and assessed its suitability for administrative and operational activities of both institutions. The visit forms part of ongoing efforts to strengthen healthcare administration and improve service delivery within the district.
